About Canonbury

Canonbury is a UK-based holding company for a group of long-established, profitable businesses. The average age of our operating companies is 19 years, and none of them rely on external funding - we are not a start-up.

We use code across our businesses to automate processes and extend the functionality of existing systems.You'll be joining a small, collaborative team, working directly with one of our founders and an experienced developer. This is not a ticket-taking outsourcing role — you will have real ownership, the chance to propose improvements, and scope to influence how our systems evolve.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain, refactor, and build tests for our existing Python codebase
  • Develop new features and tools to improve efficiencies at the operating companies
  • Build lightweight front-end interfaces for internal tools
  • Collaborate directly with founders and existing team to shape solutions
  • Use AI-powered development tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as part of your workflow

You'll have considerable freedom to make changes to production code and the opportunity to put your own ideas into practice.

Our Tech Stack

  • Languages: Primarily Python (95%+ of code)
  • Front-end: Occasional work with web frameworks for UI tools
  • Platforms: Airtable (experience useful, but not required)
  • Practices: Testing, automation, and continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

  • Strong Python skills (3+ years of professional experience preferred)
  • Comfortable with version control (Github) and modern development workflows
  • Experience writing tests and improving codebases over time
  • Eagerness to learn and experiment with new tools, especially AI-assisted coding
  • Clear communicator who enjoys collaborating in a small, distributed team
  • Proficiency in Flask and Pandas/NumPy for Python development projects
