About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Structural Designer to provide remote drafting and structural design support for residential projects such as new builds, alterations, and extensions — all in accordance with Australian Standards. You'll work with our Australia-based engineering team to deliver accurate, high-quality structural drawings and documentation that meet compliance and design best practices.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepare structural drawings in AutoCAD based on engineer markups, sketches, and notes.
  • Design and document:
  • Slab-on-ground systems (AS 2870).
  • Timber framing, bracing, and tie-down systems (AS 1684).
  • Steel beams and columns using ClearCalcs.
  • Model and design timber members using Hyne Design Software.
  • Check and coordinate documentation for accuracy before engineer review.
  • Maintain consistent file management and drawing standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team to deliver compliant and efficient designs.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Requirements (Level 1 – Basic):

  • Proficient in AutoCAD drafting for residential structures.
  • Familiarity with AS 2870 and AS 1684 standards.
  • Able to design and document slab-on-ground systems and single-storey framing.

Intermediate to Advanced Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience designing double-storey houses, including floor and roof framing.
  • Ability to integrate timber and steel designs using Hyne and ClearCalcs.
  • Capable of designing full structural plans from engineer markups.
  • Strong understanding of load transfer, subfloor design, and tie-down systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

Tools and Software

  • AutoCAD – Drafting and documentation.
  • Hyne Design Software – Timber design.
  • ClearCalcs – Steel beam and column design.
  • Microsoft Office / Teams – Communication and file management.

Reporting Line

Reports to: Senior Structural Engineer or Engineering Manager

Collaborates with: Australia-based design team
