The Nurse Triage Specialist is a critical member of our healthcare team, responsible for expertly managing incoming patient calls. This role requires a skilled registered nurse to perform telephone triage, assess patient symptoms, and make appropriate clinical decisions following established protocols. The specialist will schedule appointments in the Epic electronic health record (EHR) and escalate emergent cases to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a high volume of inbound patient calls.
- Conduct comprehensive telephone triage, assessing patient symptoms and medical history to determine the urgency of their needs.
- Utilize and adhere to established clinical guidelines and protocols to guide decision-making.
- Schedule, reschedule, and manage patient appointments directly within the Epic EHR system.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, and care plans accurately and concisely in the EHR.
- Provide patient education and self-care instructions for non-emergent conditions.
- Effectively escalate urgent or critical patient cases to on-call physicians, advanced practice providers, or emergency services as required.
- Collaborate with other members of the care team to ensure seamless patient care coordination.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
- License: Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license for Florida or any compact state license
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience required. Preferably with experience with a voice campaign
- Previous experience in telephone triage, ambulatory care, or a call center environment is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with Epic EHR is a significant advantage.
