Job Description

As a GIS Officer, you will produce maps, manage spatial data, and support field and project teams with accurate, visually compelling geospatial outputs. You'll ensure compliance with industry guidelines while exploring innovations in GIS workflows and tools.

The Qualifications We Seek

• 2 to 3 years of experience
• Tertiary qualification in GIS, spatial science, geography, archaeology, or related field
• Proficient in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or equivalent)
• Experience with map production for regulatory, consultancy, or research reporting
• Excellent attention to detail, layout design, and cartographic standards
• Strong data organization, file management, and naming convention discipline
• Ability to communicate with non-GIS users and support multi-disciplinary teams
• Interest in Aboriginal and historical cultural heritage mapping is highly desirable

Your Daily Tasks

Map Production & Spatial Data Visualisation

• Produce high-quality static and dynamic maps for CHMPs, assessments, and reports.
• Design clear, compliant, and visually consistent maps.
• Apply appropriate symbology, scale, and metadata standards.

Data Management & Integrity

• Manage spatial data inputs including field data, survey files, and heritage overlays.
• Maintain version control, naming conventions, and storage protocols.
• Ensure datasets are accurate, documented, and aligned with project timelines.

Field & Project Team Support

• Provide pre-fieldwork maps, data collection templates, and GPS setup.
• Support integration of field-collected data via Collector, Survey123, or devices.
• Coordinate with archaeologists to ensure mapping aligns with site observations.

Compliance & Report Integration

• Ensure all maps meet Victorian CHMP guidelines and Aboriginal Victoria requirements.
• Liaise with report authors for timely map provision.
• Support updates, edits, or new layouts during reviews.

GIS Systems & Innovation

• Maintain mapping templates and automate workflows.
• Contribute to GIS system improvements and digital integration.
• Explore tools like web maps, dashboards, and mobile apps.
