- Plans, organizes, and controls the operations and activities of the work unit; prepares and secures approval of the budget in support of such operations and activities.
- Develops strategic and operational plans for the nursing services department; undertakes complementary resource planning related to manpower, equipment, space utilization and lay-out, and supplies/materials requirements.
- Coordinates with the Human Resource Department on the requirement and placement of nurses; conducts final screening / technical interview of applicants to serve as basis for decision on acceptance.
- Establishes maintains, and updates nursing care policies and procedures; codifies them into an operating manual; ensures that all staff members of the department comply with the performance standards as prescribed by such policies and procedures.
- Reviews and approves overall / generic and specialized patient care plans as prepared by the nursing managers and supervisors.
- Participates in regular rounds with other medical practitioners to establish required involvement of nursing services in relation to overall and holistic patient care and individual requirements of patients.
- Presides over applied research programs of the department to be able to generate new nursing techniques, practices and identify safe of the art equipment, facilities and products that will help improve the provision of nursing services to the patients; recommends findings from research for management approval and subsequent implementation.
- Prepares periodical planner on activities to be undertaken and prepares reports on actual results, outputs and accomplishments based on plans at the end of the week; consolidates accomplishment reports into monthly performance reports.
- Oversees and controls planned and intervening activities of subordinate employees concerning the performance of their job functions and completion of task assignments in accordance with prescribed standards, in the process providing motivational approaches, appraisal, coaching, and counseling, and disciplining.
- Reviews organizational structure and functions of the clinical units and allocates distribution of staff.
- Evaluates the application of operational and strategic plans.
- Mentors nurse managers and supervisors on accountability and shared leadership.
- Evaluates and appraises the standards of nursing practice of the organization. Monitors compliance by nursing personnel to standards of patient care.
- Reviews manual of operations, policies, and procedures for accreditation with government and non-government accrediting bodies.
- Submits periodic reports to superior officers on the operations and activities of work unit with corresponding analysis and recommendations.
- Participates in collegial planning for policies, procedures and systems, problem solving, decision making and performance monitoring through participation in standing and ad hoc committees, task forces, and project teams.
- Undertakes work activities in conformity with the institutional guidelines on safety and infection control; participate in the Quality Management program.
- Attends training programs and learning sessions for the enhancements of professional, technical, and personal proficiencies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities analogous, related to and/or implied from the above enumeration of duties and responsibilities or as assigned by an immediate superior, as necessary.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing and must be a Registered Nurse
- Post graduate course (Master's degree in Nursing)
- At least ten (10) years of experience as a Nurse
- At least five (5) years in a supervisory capacity
- Strong organizational, analytical and communication abilities as well as excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
