Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and manage a team of Credit Assessors handling Australian residential mortgage applications.
- Ensure team members are well-versed with lender credit policies, NCCP, AML/CTF obligations, and responsible lending guidelines.
- Drive performance management, including setting goals, conducting reviews, and managing escalations.
- Foster a culture of compliance, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Credit Assessment Oversight
- Oversee the end-to-end credit assessment process, ensuring consistent and accurate decision-making.
- Handle escalated or complex cases, providing clear direction and decision rationale.
- Ensure the team adheres to APRA, ASIC, and lender requirements, mitigating risk for both client and customers.
- Monitor and validate key risk indicators such as serviceability, loan-to-value ratios (LVR), debt-to-income ratios (DTI), and credit scoring outcomes.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary offshore point of contact for the client's onshore credit risk, operations, and compliance teams.
- Build strong working relationships with Australian client stakeholders and respond effectively to queries, escalations, and audit requirements.
- Participate in client governance meetings and provide reporting on team performance, compliance, and quality metrics.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Monitor and manage team performance against SLAs: turnaround time (TAT), accuracy, and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with NCCP Act, AML/CTF, KYC, Responsible Lending, and Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) policies.
- Implement quality control frameworks to minimize rework, errors, or compliance breaches.
- Drive continuous process improvements, leveraging automation and best practices to enhance efficiency.
- Support audit readiness and regulatory reporting requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory:
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in Australian mortgage credit assessment, with at least 2+ years in a leadership/managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of Australian residential mortgage products, lending structures, and credit assessment frameworks.
- Experience in interpreting and applying NCCP, AML/CTF, and responsible lending obligations.
- Exposure to mortgage origination systems (ApplyOnline, Salesforce, or equivalent).
- Proven track record in managing offshore or high-volume mortgage assessment teams.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in an offshore/onshore delivery model (e.g., Manila, India, or other BPO setups).
- Exposure to multiple Australian lender credit policies and mortgage insurers (Genworth, QBE).
- Formal qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or Mortgage/Banking desirable.
