About the Role

Hill Water Publishing is seeking a skilled Romance Novel Editor to elevate manuscripts and deliver emotional depth. The ideal candidate will refine characterization, pacing, and trope delivery while maintaining voice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strengthen storytelling through developmental & line editing.
  • Write seamless new material when needed, matching the author's style.
  • Ensure every line is clean, consistent, and immersive through copyediting.
  • Promote heat levels, payoffs, and beats aligned with contemporary romance expectations.
  • Deliver feedback via tracked changes, editorial letters, and occasional live calls.
  • Multitask multiple manuscripts while maintaining high editorial standards.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional editing experience in contemporary romance.
  • 3+ published romance novels edited (please provide ISBNs or retailer links).
  • Strong ghostwriting or scene drafting experience.
  • Advanced command of grammar, dialogue pacing, and formatting.
  • Ability to spot sagging middles, sharpen arcs, and elevate tropes.
  • A deep love for romance.
