Job Description

Canonical is seeking a skilled technologist to fill the role of Software Maintenance Engineer. This position requires a deep understanding of Linux and open source software, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with Linux and open source software, as well as a strong academic track record in Computer Science or a related field. They should also be proficient in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, C, or C++.

This role involves working on complex technical issues related to Ubuntu and other open source software. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good judgment and technical expertise in resolving these issues.

  • Resolving complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes and other open source software
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support and product engineering teams
  • Participating in upstream communities
  • Developing bug fixes, backport patches, and working with upstream for inclusion
  • Reviewing code produced by other engineers
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM or similar
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Experience with at least one of Python, Go, C or C++ on Linux
