Real Estate Accounting Specialist
Location: Remote | Employment Type: Full-Time | Department: Finance & Accounting
We are seeking a skilled Real Estate Accounting Specialist to maintain accurate financial records for multiple properties using AppFolio.
Responsibilities- Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, bank accounts, trust accounts, and credit card statements.
- Process vendor bills, tenant payments, owner statements, financial reports, and draw schedules.
- Reconcile monthly bank accounts, trust accounts, and credit card statements.
- Monitor and manage tenant ledgers, security deposits, and lease-related transactions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and real estate-specific accounting standards.
- Collaborate with property managers to resolve discrepancies and support audits.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and year-end financial preparations.
- Handle tax documentation, 1099s, and other regulatory filings as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
- CPA or Bookkeeping Certification (a plus).
- Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in real estate.
- Proven expertise in AppFolio software (required).
- Experience managing financials for multiple properties or portfolios.
- Advanced proficiency in AppFolio, QuickBooks, and Excel.
- Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with U.S. property management practices.
- Experience with trust account reconciliation and owner draw processes.
- Comfortable working in a remote, fast-paced environment.
