Strategic Economist for Asia-Pacific Development

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is seeking a skilled Strategic Economist to lead economic sector work in five Central Asian countries. This role requires expertise in economic research, analysis, and policy formulation, with a focus on promoting sustainable development in the region.
About the JobAs a Senior Economist, you will be responsible for leading complex economic diagnostic studies, providing strategic leadership for knowledge-sharing activities, and supporting country programming initiatives. Your expertise will help shape ADB's strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, driving economic growth, and reducing poverty.
Key Responsibilities:- Liaise with senior government officials to resolve policy issues and facilitate the implementation of Country Partnership Strategies (CPS).
- Develop and implement regional knowledge plans, focusing on climate change investment, private sector development, and gender action.
- Support donor coordination and advance the harmonization agenda, ensuring effective management of communications and external relations.
- Lead the preparation of Central Asian country chapters for the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) and other economic reports.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with senior staff, Management, and senior government officials.
- Masters degree in economics, political science, public policy, or a related field (PhD an advantage).
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in economic research/analysis, macroeconomic policy formulation, and development planning.
- Evidence of high-quality knowledge outputs, including publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated expertise in economic research and development in developing countries.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.
- Broad-based exposure to country programming.
- International experience working in development in several countries.
The salary for this position is estimated to be around $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The benefits package includes paid leave, medical and health insurance, life insurance, and retirement plan, as well as housing and education allowance for eligible staff members.
