Job ResponsibilitiesWe're looking for someone to maintain strong relationships with service providers, identifying synergies to improve service and pricing. This includes managing local ocean freight, warehouse, and trucking charges, such as drayage, LTL trucking, bullet/NAC rates, LCL rates, and non-tariff demurrage/detention.
You will facilitate regular meetings with local carriers, including ocean service providers, truckers, co-loaders, and internal teams focused on delivering competitive services and rates.
When origin/destination services are requested, you will request rates from origin/destination offices for customer approval, saving relevant backup for retention purposes. This may be a one-time request or ongoing.
If freight rates are unavailable, you will request rates from carriers as needed. You must ensure we balance cost and service while aligning with customer needs. If unsure about customer priorities, you will engage in ongoing dialogue to clarify.
You will work closely with sales and account management teams on new opportunities related to pricing and service strategy.
Your prompt responses to pricing requests from local customers are expected within 2 hours. Same-day responses are required unless unavailable, followed by regular updates. Overseas rate requests will receive same-day responses unless unavailable, followed by regular updates.
All quotes must be prepared using the Quoting Tool or Approved Quote Format as per company policy.
You will maintain good relationships with Sales, Customer Service, and collect feedback for each quote. Approval or rejection must be logged regularly in the quoting database. For follow-up on internal quote requests, you will send emails or make phone calls within 1 day and again at 3 days. If no response is received after two follow-ups, you will mark the quote as rejected due to lack of response after 10 days. For external quote requests, follow-up will occur next day and again at 3 days. If no response after 10 days, you will reject the quote in the database due to lack of response.
A quote log with feedback will be maintained for market analysis.
You will regularly analyze the market to gather information (carriers, transit time, services used) to better quote and achieve a high closing ratio.
Data from the Quoting Database and relevant information will be used to report on potential customers and trending lanes. Department managers will be kept aware of services, market trends, market issues, and business development goals.
Continual development of tools and processes will optimize pricing function.
You will support operations on newly awarded business by sharing specific details and customer requirements with operations. Pricing agents will involve supervisors for transition, where appropriate. A shell file will be created, shared with the customer, and provided to operations for any spot business awarded. In doing so, pricing agents will upload quotes, approvals, add quote references to the file for tracking, and create TLIs where possible.
All submitted quotes will remain confidential and not disclosed to anyone outside the department.
Your primary goal is to execute the job according to company guidelines and policies.
You will keep the team informed about GRI, PSS, current FSC, and rate fluctuations and changes whenever they occur.
You will participate in company initiatives aiming at business development.
Other tasks and duties deemed appropriate by your management team may also be assigned.
