Compliance Specialist

The Compliance function plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing independent testing reviews, ensuring targeted regulatory obligations are met.

This position requires a high level of analytical skills to identify potential gaps or areas for control enhancement within the first and second lines of defense.

Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential in this role, as is the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Scope, plan, conduct and document independent compliance testing for Northern Trust entities
  • Implement and enhance regional GCT programs in coordination with local, regional and global partners and compliance functions
  • Execute annual GCT plans by conducting GCT testing, working closely with manager and meeting scheduled deadlines
  • Review and validate results, escalating key risks in a timely manner
  • Partner with Audit senior management, business partners and relevant compliance functions to coordinate GCT testing
  • Develop strong relationships with Business Units
  • Advise business partners on applicable laws, regulations, rules, standards and best practices which may impact their business
  • Work closely with global and regional GCT teams as required
  • Work in partnership with the wider Compliance, Risk and Controls teams
  • Produce and analyze GCT reports and data for internal committees and boards
Key Skills & Qualifications

Requires:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Experience in monitoring/testing, including planning of tests
  • General knowledge of bank compliance regulations
  • Understanding of regional regulations and relevant laws
  • Knowledge of Custody, Asset Servicing, FX, Fund Administration, Brokerage businesses as well as corporate governance
  • Strong organizational skills, a collaborative approach to work, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience
  • 5-7 years' experience, preferably in Compliance or risk management
