Category Management Professional

The role of a Category Management Professional is to oversee the classification and categorization of products and services, ensuring data quality and accuracy. This involves assigning appropriate codes and maintaining taxonomies to support informed business decisions.

This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent collaboration and communication abilities. A background in business or information management is preferred, with experience in procurement operations, data management, or category support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate product/service classification and taxonomy, including assigning relevant codes.
  • Ensure data quality and compliance with classification standards to support informed business decisions.
  • Analyze market trends, pricing, supply risks, and geographic opportunities to inform category strategies.
  • Support procurement systems with accurate category data to optimize purchasing processes.
  • Assist in supplier and product data updates to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in classification data and implement corrective actions.
  • Train internal stakeholders on classification standards to ensure seamless adoption.
  • Support category reporting requirements to provide insights into performance and improvement areas.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Management, or related field.
  • Familiarity with industry classification systems such as UNSPSC and IMPA codes is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years' total work experience in procurement operations, data management, or category support.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a data or classification-focused role.
  • Experience in data quality assurance and taxonomy maintenance.
