Job Title: Software Systems Architect

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced software systems architect to join our distributed team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java Runtimes and its ecosystem, with experience in cloud-native software and Linux.

The role involves collaborating with our team to select and integrate best-of-breed tooling with Ubuntu, improving developer and operator experience with Java Runtimes, frameworks, and applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to develop and maintain core components of Canonical Ubuntu related to the Java Virtual Machine.
  • Select, integrate, and package best-of-breed tooling with Ubuntu to enhance developer and operator experience.
  • Design and develop high-quality code to create new features and fix issues.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and participate in discussions on finding good solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

We are looking for individuals with relevant experience in Java Runtimes and its ecosystem, preferably in cloud-native software and Linux. Additionally, you should have expertise in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu, and be a long-time Linux user.

A strong academic track record from both high school and university is essential, as well as an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path.
