Our organization seeks a skilled Security Engineer to join our team and contribute to the security of open source software.

About this role

This position involves monitoring, triaging, and documenting vulnerabilities in open source packages. The ideal candidate will have experience with vulnerability analysis, patching, and testing.

We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with other teams and upstream developers to ensure that Ubuntu includes robust security features.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of common security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzing and fixing vulnerabilities in open source packages
  • Maintaining knowledge of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem
  • Collaborating with other teams and upstream developers to develop and implement security patches
  • Auditing source code for vulnerabilities
Requirements
  1. Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them
  2. Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices
  3. Experience with open source development tools and methodologies
  4. Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript)
  5. Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with the team and community members
  7. Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  8. Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability, politeness, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
  9. Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
