Senior Engineering Leadership Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineering Manager to establish and lead our offshore engineering team in a strategically located hub.

This role will be responsible for building a high-performing team of 5-6 engineers, overseeing the development lifecycle, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

You'll play a critical part in maintaining product stability while fostering a strong engineering culture in Manila. This role will involve managing a team of engineers, overseeing the development process, and collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Agile Delivery Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard 5-6 engineers (2 QA, 3-4 Full-Stack) within the first 3 months
  • Allocate 30-40% of your time coding alongside your team once established
  • Partner with the Agile Delivery Manager to define the team's delivery process
  • Maintain availability from 9am-12pm UK time for critical collaboration
  • Lead knowledge absorption from the UK team during the ramp-up period

Key Requirements:

  • A proven track record as a player-coach in similar-sized teams
  • Strong hands-on expertise in PHP/Laravel, current and deep
  • Experience building and scaling offshore/remote teams
  • A background in maintaining systems while ensuring stability

Technical Expertise:

  • Expert-level PHP/Laravel knowledge for code reviews and mentoring
  • A strong understanding of MySQL, Redis, and caching strategies
  • Experience with AWS services (RDS, EKS preferred)
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools (Sentry, Datadog)

Leadership & Communication:

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and build teams from scratch
  • Experience managing mid to senior-level engineers
  • Excellent English communication (written and verbal)
  • Strong asynchronous communication skills for distributed team collaboration

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Experience in B2B SaaS or cybersecurity domains
  • Familiarity with enterprise integrations (SCIM, SAML, OAuth)
  • Experience with Remote.com or similar EOR arrangements
  • An understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements
