Senior IT Auditor Job Description

A Senior IT Auditor plays a pivotal role in assessing and enhancing internal controls, IT systems, and risk management processes. This position makes significant contributions to the development of audit strategies and leads or supports IT-focused audits to ensure the integrity and reliability of systems critical to financial reporting and business operations.


Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive internal audit methodologies and annual audit plans that align with organizational goals.
  • Plan, execute, and document thorough IT audits in accordance with the audit plan or as requested by management or the Audit Committee.
  • Evaluate Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICFR), including IT process walkthroughs, control testing, and detailed reporting.
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and high-quality audit documentation is maintained throughout the audit lifecycle.
  • Prepare professional audit workpapers and formal reports detailing key observations and actionable recommendations.
  • Identify and follow up on internal control weaknesses to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders throughout the audit process.
  • Promote audit awareness across the organization through regular updates and communication.
  • Stay current on emerging business technologies, accounting standards, and regulatory changes affecting IT and audit practices.
  • Communicate clear and concise audit insights to senior management.
  • Partner with audit leadership to identify potential technology risks and develop strategic mitigation plans.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in public accounting or internal audit, preferably within a publicly traded company.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's degree is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of IT systems, controls, and processes.
  • Proficiency in auditing IT General Controls (ITGCs) and key reports supporting financial processes.
  • Familiarity with established internal control frameworks such as COSO and COBIT.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
