Job Description:

The Special Education Specialist will instruct and monitor student progress in both synchronous and asynchronous instructional settings according to student need. This position requires providing guidance and support to students/families, maintaining student records, monitoring needed remediation, and working with Academic Advisors to adhere to all necessary accommodations.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of assigned course or courses, demonstrate knowledge of diverse backgrounds and needs of PA Cyber students and families, and facilitate live class sessions in the Virtual Classroom and/or Blended Classroom environments.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must have:

  • A Valid Pennsylvania State Teaching Certificate in Special Education
  • Job-related experience preferred
  • Child Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Orienting students to their course, communicating course requirements, and monitoring student progress and pacing
  • Demonstrating thorough knowledge and understanding of assigned course or courses
  • Facilitating live class sessions in the Virtual Classroom and/or Blended Classroom environments
  • Helping the Virtual Classroom Teacher and Blended Classroom Teacher facilitate live sessions
  • Evaluating student progress to determine appropriate course pacing and assign live interventions, as necessary
  • Communicating student progress on a regular basis to Academic Advisors, students, and families
  • Administering periodic benchmark and/or diagnostic assessments and communicating testing results
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of the various technologies and systems utilized within the school
  • Performing any additional duties as deemed necessary by administration
