Job Description

The Senior Tax Accountant is primarily responsible for assisting clients by preparing financial and management accounting reports for review.

They will work closely with senior members of the team to ensure high-quality results and provide career progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply fundamental accounting concepts to computerised accounting packages (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) and utilise this software to prepare basic financial statements.
  • Comply with client's working paper standards and accounting checklists. Understand principles of applicable accounts presentation and accounting standards.
  • Adhere to standard organisational obligations and statutory lodgment requirements (e.g. annual returns).
  • Formation and maintenance of client relationships.
  • Provision of on-the-job training for other colleagues as required, including supervision of graduate work.
  • Develop a basic understanding of business structures and intra-group transfers.
  • Attend relevant training sessions.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience with a Chartered Accounting Firm and expertise in preparing financial statements and annual tax returns for multiple clients.

They must also have knowledge of Australian accounting, taxation and clients, as well as strong communication skills to express clearly all accounting interrelationships.

  • Experience with Xero and MYOB computerised accounting packages.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Understanding of tax laws, state taxes and duties relating to resident taxpayers.
  • Comprehension of accounting and taxation concepts and a willingness to develop practical application of this knowledge.
  • Exposure to management responsibilities and mentoring of junior staff.
