Optimizing Software Assets

As a software asset management specialist, you play a critical role in ensuring the efficient use of software licenses within an organization.

This involves managing and enforcing compliance with licensing agreements to prevent legal issues and financial penalties. You will work closely with procurement teams to negotiate licenses at favorable terms and pricing, maintain accurate inventory records, identify opportunities for cost reduction, build vendor relationships, develop licensing policies, conduct audits and reporting, and educate internal teams on best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Compliance Management: Monitor and enforce compliance with licensing agreements to prevent costly penalties.
  • Procurement Negotiation: Collaborate with procurement teams to secure optimal license deals.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain up-to-date records of software licenses, tracking usage, expiration dates, and renewal requirements.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce software costs while maintaining required functionality.
  • Vendor Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with software vendors to stay informed about updates and changes in licensing models.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement licensing policies and guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
  • Audits and Reporting: Conduct regular license audits, prepare reports, and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Training and Education: Educate internal teams on software licensing best practices and compliance requirements.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of software licensing models, including proprietary, open-source, and cloud-based licenses.
  • Experience managing IBM licenses and other enterprise licenses.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, as well as collaboration skills to work effectively in a global team.
