Eye Care Professional Job Description

The Ophthalmic Nurse plays a crucial role in providing quality eye care services to patients. The primary functions and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Conducting thorough patient assessments, including medical and eye condition evaluations, to determine the best course of treatment.

  • Preparing patients for ophthalmology examinations by dilating pupils, measuring visual acuity and/or color vision, skin testing, and checking blood pressure as prescribed by licensed physicians.

  • Administering medications, treatments, and intravenous fluorescein dye as ordered by licensed physicians.

  • Performing all ophthalmology diagnostic procedures except those that must be performed by the ophthalmologist; assisting ophthalmologists during laser treatment procedures.

  • Preparing supplies, instruments, and documents prior to surgery; assisting patients in preparation for surgery.

  • Assisting surgical teams and carrying out doctor's orders during eye surgeries.

  • Providing postoperative care management and delivering discharge instructions to patients.

  • Coordinating with doctors and/or other units regarding patient conditions as needed.

  • Preparing patient records; encoding patient information, charging procedures, and preparing results.

  • Ensuring that all equipment and accessories are functioning properly and materials and supplies needed in procedures and surgeries are available.

  1. Adhering to proper safety precautions and infection control measures.
  1. Ensuring confidentiality and security of data, complying with patient privacy or confidentiality acts.
  1. Performing other responsibilities assigned by Senior Ophthalmic Staff, Department Heads, and Hospital Finance and Operations Staff.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, board passer
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience; training in ophthalmic procedures
  • Technical skills; clerical skills; communication & organizational skills
  • Proactive; team player; attentive to details
  • One (1) Full-Time position available
  • Can start ASAP
