Instructional Design Specialist

The role of an Instructional Design Specialist is to create engaging and effective learning activities and compelling course content in collaboration with subject matter experts from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply best practices in learning technologies and instructional design to develop innovative learning solutions that meet specific learning objectives
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts to identify required learning outcomes and target learner populations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Identify the most appropriate and effective delivery mechanisms (e-learning, virtual classroom, face-to-face etc.) to achieve desired learning outcomes and enhance the learning experience
  • Set instructional end goals and create content that matches them, including visualizing instructional graphics and designing user interfaces that facilitate seamless navigation
  • Provide learner interactivity (exercises, activities etc.) that enhance the learning process and learner experience, promoting active participation and engagement
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.) to reinforce learning objectives and cater to different learning styles
  • Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course and attainment of knowledge and other specified learner outcomes
  • Identify poor quality and/or outdated learning content and offer recommendations for improvement or replacement, ensuring continuous quality assurance
Requirements
  • Deep understanding of learning theories and instructional design models, with the ability to apply this knowledge in practical contexts
  • Strong lesson and curriculum planning skills, with the capacity to design and deliver comprehensive learning programs
  • Working knowledge of multiple web design technologies (HTML) and multi-media formats (jpg, mp4, mp3), with proficiency in creating visually appealing and engaging content
  • Visual design skills (e.g. Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator), with the ability to create high-quality graphics and user interfaces
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio and video scripts, with a focus on clear communication and concise messaging
  • BA or MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar relevant field, with certification in Instructional Design being a plus
