Job Title: Mortgage Loan Review Specialist

Job Overview

Mortgage loan review specialists play a crucial role in the mortgage industry by ensuring that loan packages are accurate, complete and compliant with regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills to conduct thorough calculations and validations to guarantee the integrity and reliability of the loan package. They should also have excellent communication skills to work closely with stakeholders to gather missing documents and resolve inconsistencies to deliver loans without errors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Loan Preparation & Accuracy: Review and validate all mortgage loan components, including borrower documentation, financial data, and property appraisals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all data points and documents in the loan package are aligned with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) outputs to minimize risks and prevent errors.
  • Prioritize loan preparation and accuracy to meet capital market buyer requirements and investor trust.
  • Anticipate and address potential discrepancies to avoid investor objections or rejections.
Credit & Risk Mitigation:
  • Identify and resolve credit issues to minimize risks and adhere to regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation for each underwriting decision to create a transparent audit trail.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather missing documents and resolve inconsistencies to deliver loans without errors.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:
  • Conduct quality checks on completed loan packages to uphold high standards of accuracy.
  • Stay updated on industry guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory changes to implement best practices and improvements.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mortgage loan underwriting (conventional, FHA/VA, non-QM) for US consumers.
  • Familiarity with TRID guidelines, agency and investor guidelines (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/VA).
  • Understanding of the mortgage life cycle from end-to-end is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets and customer information tools.
  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, finance, economics or related fields.
  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing regulations and guidelines.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage loan underwriting. They should be proficient in MS Excel/Google Sheets and customer information tools.
