Home Lending Underwriter Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Home Lending Underwriter to join our team. As a key decision-maker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and quality of our lending process.

The successful candidate will analyze loan applications, apply sound judgment, and help customers secure their dream homes. You will work collaboratively with internal partners to deliver exceptional service and support clients' financial goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze residential mortgage loan applications for accuracy and completeness
  • Apply credit policies and investor guidelines to underwriting decisions
  • Assess borrower repayment capacity, assets, creditworthiness, and property condition
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions to internal partners
  • Ensure compliance with fair lending practices and regulatory requirements
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with mortgage applications
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit policy changes and industry standards
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an underwriter or in a similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related field
  • Proficiency in mortgage underwriting software and automated underwriting systems
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with various mortgage products
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC guidelines
  • Experience in reviewing complex financial statements and loan documentation
