Technical Writer Position

We are seeking an experienced technical writer to create and organize helpful articles and guides for our customers and employees. The ideal candidate will be able to write clear instructions that everyone can understand.

The successful applicant will have a strong background in writing technical documents, including software guides, user manuals, how-to articles, and update notes. They will also have experience working with software developers and product teams to understand new features.

Responsibilities:

  • Write clear and concise technical documents that explain complex information in simple terms.
  • Work closely with software developers and product teams to understand new features and develop documentation accordingly.
  • Translate technical language into plain English that anyone can understand.
  • Develop helpful images such as diagrams, screenshots, and flowcharts to support the written content.
  • Organize documents so they are easy to find and access.
  • Test the instructions written to ensure they work correctly.
  • Update old documents to keep them accurate and useful.
  • Collaborate with support teams to identify areas where documentation is needed.
  • Develop standard formats and templates to maintain consistency across all documents.
  • Contribute to the development of new projects and suggest ways to improve documentation.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Tier III employee or higher.
  • Must meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Must have no current disciplinary warnings.
  • Must have a good attendance record.
  • Must be able to work from any location.
  • Must be available to work Monday-Friday, 6 AM to 5 PM Central Time.
  • Strong writing skills are essential, along with the ability to explain difficult concepts in simple terms.
  • Experience writing different types of technical documents is necessary.
  • Comfortable asking engineers many questions to obtain information.
  • Knowledge of documentation software such as Confluence, Zendesk Guide, or similar is required.
  • Good research skills are necessary to find information from various sources.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • Good organization and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate clearly is necessary.

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Bettermode (community documentation platform).
  • BrowserStack (website testing tool).
  • Vellum (documentation writing tool).
  • Basic understanding of software development.
  • Ability to read simple code examples.
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Git.
  • Knowledge of markup languages like Markdown or HTML.
  • Understanding of SEO (making content easy to find in search engines).
