Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to design, implement and maintain database systems that meet business requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  • Research and evaluation of latest technologies related to database and database components.
  • Lead proof-of-concepts and testing to assess the suitability of database technologies.
  • Update and improve database architecture and standards based on reliable research and/or proof-of-concept conducted.
  • Manage the procurement process for database-related assets.
  • Recommend suitable databases for new applications based on business requirements, license considerations, technical feasibility and performance.
  • Build new databases including fine-tuning and optimization in conjunction with application functional and performance testing to ensure suitability for production deployment.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging database platforms such as NoSQL, time-series databases or graph databases and other cloud-native databases based on business requirements.
  • Administer, maintain and support activities for enterprise databases residing on multiple platforms.
  • Monitor database performance, plan and execute disaster recovery procedures and provide tier-2 technical support.
  • Develop strategies for efficient and reliable database allocation and configuration, define backup, recovery and archival procedures.
  • Prepare regular reports for use in system optimization, problem resolution and daily operations.
  • Manage escalated incidents, problems or service requests regarding departmental systems and services in collaboration with other departments.
  • Initiate or review purchase requests or disbursements of the department.
  • Establish and implement business continuity practices for database management.
  • Perform risk management on projects and system implementations.
