Piping Designers play a crucial role in creating and maintaining efficient piping systems for various industries.

Job Description

The Piping Designer will be responsible for all aspects of piping design and drafting, including 3D routing, support placement, and creation of fabrication/installation drawings. The ideal candidate will interpret technical documents, develop material take-offs (MTOs), and ensure compliance with standards and codes.

This position requires strong technical skills, with expertise in AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks, as well as experience working with point cloud software like Autodesk Recap or CloudWorx. A thorough understanding of standard design and drafting practices is essential, along with knowledge of process and utility piping specifications and codes.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform piping drafting/design tasks, including 3D routing of pipe, determining location of pipe supports, and creating Isometric drawings, sketches necessary for the fabrication and installation of piping systems.
  2. Read and interpret equipment drawings and technical data from third-party vendors.
  3. Develop, quantify, and organize piping material take-off's (MTO's).
  4. Follow company CAD standards and client piping specifications.
  5. Ensure design compliance with respective client/company specification and codes.
  6. Check and back-check drawings produced by drafting.
  7. Interact with designers and engineers within the engineering group, and from other disciplines, in a team environment to create multi-discipline design packages for construction.
  8. Work within company policy as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manual.
  9. Interface with designers from other disciplines to provide a complete 3D model that meets project requirements.
  10. Understand and update P&ID's.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 10 years of experience in heavy industrial projects with AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks.
  • Experience with utilizing point cloud software like Autodesk Recap or CloudWorx.
  • Clash Detection experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal skills with a strong customer service attitude.
  • Thorough understanding and efficiency with standard design and drafting practices.
  • Code and Plant Specific Standard knowledge/comprehension required.
  • Strong process plant design background from conceptual design to plant layout and design of process and utility piping systems.
  • Knowledge of process and utility piping specifications and codes.
  • Ability to visualize and layout process plants and piping in 3D.
  • Ability to develop and work from P&ID's for use in plant layout & piping design.
