Linux Kernel Delivery Manager

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to manage a distributed team of software engineers in various aspects of the delivery and ongoing support of all Linux kernels provided by the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

This role suits both seasoned managers of high-performing software development teams and technical leads looking to take on a management responsibility.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Linux and wants to contribute significantly to its distribution to millions of users worldwide.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Taking ownership of specific aspects of Ubuntu Linux, such as working with silicon or cloud partners to implement optimized Linux kernels, ensuring compatibility with diverse hardware platforms, and executing stringent quality control standards expected by the Ubuntu user community.
  • Mitigating the latest security threats and exploits to the Linux kernel.
  • Implementing process automation for the build, test, and delivery of the Linux kernel.

Key qualifications include significant programming experience in C, Python, Golang, or similar languages, and substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts. Familiarity with version control practices, especially git, and direct experience with software packaging formats, including Ubuntu/Debian/Snap, is highly regarded.

Candidates should have excellent written and spoken English skills, presentation abilities, and be willing to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
