Senior DevOps Engineer Observability Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer with expertise in observability to join our team.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team of DevOps practitioners supporting teams delivering business critical software for our internal broking division and external customer base. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating OpenTelemetry into software applications and building and maintaining our Observability Platform as part of our DevOps Tooling and Capabilities.

The role will play a crucial part in steering the future direction of Observability, offering observability as code in delivery pipelines, setting standards and guardrails for all teams, and building a world-class Observability platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain an Observability solution aligned with our IT strategy and vision.
  • Work closely with Observability and DevOps Engineers to integrate the Observability solution into delivery pipelines and application codebases.
  • Communicate with governance streams to ensure adherence to process, quality, and architectural design.
  • Deliver against functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Take ownership and accountability for developing key features and drive them to completion.
  • Communicate effectively on progress and raise impediments early to minimize impact on delivery.
  • Participate in incident management to rectify production defects based on criticality and severity.
  • Guide and support teams in implementation and adherence to Change Control principles.
  • Ensure inter-project dependencies and project risks are understood and managed.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Understanding of Observability pillars and knowledge of tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenSearch, and CloudWatch.
  • Hands-on experience in deploying and managing AWS resources.
  • Demonstrable experience in full-stack software engineering using Java, C#, Typescript, JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Experience in Application Lifecycle Management Tools and technologies such as Source Code Management (git), DevOps platforms (Gitlab, TeamCity, Sonatype Nexus).
  • Experience in monitoring applications and infrastructure in both non-production and production systems.
