Job Opening

We are seeking a highly skilled Security Engineer to join our team. As an integral part of our organization, you will be responsible for protecting our open source community and users from emerging threats.

This role requires international travel at least twice a year, usually for one week. It also demands the ability to work effectively in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open source packages.
  • Monitor vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed, utilizing internal tools.
  • Collaborate with other teams in the community and upstream developers, when necessary, to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure that Ubuntu includes the most robust security features.
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities.
  • Develop features and tools to aid teams in strengthening the security of their products and contribute to the overall security of Ubuntu.
Requirements:
  • You have a thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities and techniques for addressing them.
  • You are familiar with coordinated disclosure practices.
  • You are knowledgeable about open source development tools and methodologies.
  • You possess skills in C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • You have exceptional logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
  • You can clearly and effectively communicate with your team and community members.
  • You have experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • You possess excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • You appreciate diversity, are polite, and effective in a multi-cultural, multi-national organization.
  • You exhibit thoughtfulness and self-motivation.
  • You are result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments.
