Job Overview

A unique opportunity has arisen for a seasoned Linguistic Quality Manager to spearhead the development and implementation of rating frameworks, ensuring that rater guidelines are accurate, usable, and aligned with client objectives.


This role combines linguistic expertise, quality management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive high-quality outputs. As the primary linguist, you will partner with program managers, data scientists, and raters to translate client goals into clear evaluation standards and ensure consistent results.


The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of linguistic principles, excellent analytical skills, and experience in annotation/evaluation programs. Additionally, they will have the ability to deliver rater training, coaching, and feedback, as well as collaborate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.


Responsibilities
  • Translate client objectives into actionable rating guidelines.
  • Evaluate and refine guidelines to ensure alignment with client business needs.
  • Collaborate with clients during pilot phases to validate guidelines and make adjustments based on test outcomes.
  • Develop and manage initial test sets to validate guidelines.
  • Review rater performance during pilots, identify error patterns, and adjust standards accordingly.
  • Partner with data scientists to ensure pilots are measurable and data-backed.
  • Act as the quality authority for rater performance, ensuring alignment with guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for raters, clarifying complex linguistic or evaluative concepts.
  • Monitor rater consistency and provide structured feedback to raise quality standards.
  • Represent the linguistic quality perspective in client meetings and ensure alignment.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of guideline updates, quality frameworks, and training processes.
  • Perform mid-level reporting and analysis on rater performance (e.g., agreement rates, recurring errors).
  • Highlight risks, biases, or ambiguities in guidelines and propose solutions.
  • Refine processes to improve consistency, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

Qualifications
  • Expertise in semantics, pragmatics, discourse, and applied linguistic analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and refine annotation/rating guidelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to connect linguistic quality with operational or client outcomes.
  • Experience delivering rater training, coaching, and feedback.
  • Skilled in Google Sheets (advanced formulas, data validation, quality tracking).

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related field.
  • 3–5 years experience in linguistics, applied linguistics, or annotation/evaluation programs.
