Lead Automation Engineer

Lead Automation Engineer at Tyler Technologies — remote role in Manila. Tyler Technologies is seeking an experienced Lead Automation Engineer to join our remote team, working on complex ERP solutions for the public sector. You'll be responsible for leading test automation efforts using a custom-built testing framework that combines C# backend testing with Playwright UI automation, including projects that utilize an innovative abstraction layer as well as traditional Playwright implementations for various web applications.

Lead the design and implementation of automated test strategies for our comprehensive ERP platform, mentor QA team members, and drive innovative solutions to solve testing challenges. You'll work with complex business processes spanning financial management, asset tracking, and government compliance workflows across multiple web applications.

• Design and maintain custom test automation frameworks
• Develop data management strategies using database manipulation
• Mentor team on framework-specific patterns and best practices
• Collaborate on compile-time consistency strategies across the stack
• Automate (create, maintain, and execute) end-to-end tests for UI and API workflows using testing frameworks such as Playwright and Selenium
• Design and implement test automation architecture using Page Object Model (POM) or similar design patterns to ensure scalability and maintainability
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as TeamCity, Mercurial/Git, and GitHub
• Perform cross-browser testing
• Develop and execute an overall automation strategy for a complex ERP system, focusing on UI/integration testing while also supporting API and performance testing as needed
• Participate in code review meetings
• Support other testers and automation engineers in approach, design, script development, execution, and reporting
• Analyze and communicate test results and defect resolution tasks
• Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to apply them to an existing project
• Demonstrate automation solutions to key stakeholders, showcasing value and progress
• Monitor and review daily test reports, taking necessary actions to address failures or issues
• Collaborate with teams to manage test data and use third-party tools for database interactions

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
• 6+ years of experience in test automation for multi-platform, multi-user web-based applications, preferably in complex ERP systems or similar enterprise-level software
• Experience with C# to TypeScript code generation workflows
• SQL Server proficiency and database setup/management
• Test data management strategies using direct database manipulation
• Understanding of database-driven test scenarios
• Mercurial (Hg) source control experience with TortoiseHg
• NUnit testing framework expertise
• Understanding of robot pattern implementations
• Experience with strongly typed test automation approaches
• Experience testing complex business workflows and processes
• Understanding of typical ERP business logic (AP/AR, Billing, HRM, etc.)
• Strong programming skills in languages such as C# or Java, TypeScript with ability to write modular maintainable code
• Experience designing and executing functional UI, backend and API-based manual and automated tests
• Experience with Agile – Scrum, Kanban or Lean development processes
• Experience with Cucumber/Gherkin, Playwright, Selenium WebDriver open-source frameworks
• Experience with Jenkins, TeamCity, Mercurial or other build management/CI tools; AWS is desirable
• Experience with security testing (e.g., SQLi, XSS) is a plus
• Experience using Jira and Zephyr is preferable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of performance testing is preferred
• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, flexible on-site and offshore team environment
• Self-starter, able to operate independently and manage time across diverse tasks in a fast-moving environment
