Overview

The General Accounting Assistant Manager (GA AM) is responsible for overseeing end-to-end general accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and driving process standardization and efficiency across multiple lines of business in APAC. This role manages a general accounting team of accountants, senior accountants and team leads. It collaborates with APAC Finance Managers and Controllers to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting. The GA AM reports directly to the Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting Services and plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the operations, support and strategic direction of the General Accounting team, contributing to the APAC Finance vision with high interaction across stakeholders in APAC.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Possesses a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance or related field. CPA/ CMA preferred. At least 10 years of experience in finance operations with 5 years in a meaningful leadership role, operating in a Global Business Services (GBS) or Shared Services environment.

OTHERS: Willingness to work in a hybrid environment (minimum three days in the office). This position is primarily a people leadership role responsible for managing and developing a multi-level team. Reports to the Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting Services and collaborates with Finance Managers and Controllers to align accounting with regional standards.

Responsibilities
  • GA Operations Management: manage and oversee record-to-report value stream (including month-end closing, financial analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany and payroll accounting); develop and maintain dashboards and KPIs; handle Level 2 operational escalations; review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis; ensure timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings with insights to APAC Finance Heads.
  • Operational Efficiency: deliver high-quality accounting services with optimal resource use, drive standardization and automation of processes in collaboration with Finance Systems Support and Finance Heads.
  • Balance Sheet Accounts Reconciliation: review and approve monthly balance sheet reconciliations; discuss risks and opportunities with stakeholders; approve risk assessments and provide recommendations.
  • Compliance & Controls: ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements (GAAP, IFRS); maintain and improve internal controls and procedures; support audits and represent GA team in meetings.
  • Intercompany Accounting Oversight: ensure timely and accurate recording of intercompany transactions; oversee reconciliations; manage escalations and coordinate with respective Finance Heads.
  • Payroll Accounting Oversight: ensure accurate payroll entries and timely payroll reconciliations; handle related escalations and coordinate with Payroll and Senior Manager.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: collaborate with other departments (e.g., Commercial, Tax, Treasury, HR) to ensure accurate financial data; support business initiatives with financial insights.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Management: build strong relationships with stakeholders across functions and regions; align business needs with GA capabilities; provide financial insights to business partners and senior management.
  • Knowledge Management: create and maintain SOPs, review and update SOPs and work instructions for in-scope processes, ensure accuracy and ISO/audit readiness; create process maps and training programs; conduct knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • GA Project Partner: lead cross-functional teams on accounting-related projects; act as a key partner on APAC-wide initiatives; lead, mentor and develop senior accountants and team leads; set performance goals and conduct reviews; foster continuous improvement and collaboration; manage performance and career development; demonstrate leadership, process orientation, and strong analytical skills; maintain high standards of confidentiality and integrity.
