Security Engineering SpecialistOverview

The Security Engineering Specialist is responsible for ensuring security is integrated throughout the lifecycle of systems, applications, and infrastructure development. This includes reviewing implementations for compliance with internal security policies and industry best practices (SANS, NIST, CIS), supporting vulnerability identification and mitigation, and assisting in the delivery of secure technology solutions. The role involves performing technical assessments, collaborating with development and infrastructure teams, and helping ensure that identified security gaps are addressed before deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct security assessments and reviews of systems, applications, and infrastructure components.
  • Identify vulnerabilities and assist in recommending and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in evaluating change requests (RFCs) to ensure alignment with security standards and policies.
  • Document findings from vulnerability assessments and penetration tests, and coordinate remediation with technical teams.
  • Provide technical support and input during design reviews and implementation planning.
  • Stay current with emerging threats and propose improvements to existing control sets.
  • Contribute to the development and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to security assurance activities.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Cyber Security and Technology Office to support secure solution delivery.
  • Conduct internal security audits to ensure security policies are being followed.
  • Assist with external audits for regulatory compliance like ISO27001.
  • Maintain documentation for compliance and risk management.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Educate employees about security awareness and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in IT Security or related roles.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Has experience in project management
Specific skills & abilities
  • Solid understanding of IT security domains – network and application security.
  • Experience with vulnerability assessment and remediation practices.
  • Experience or familiarity with ISO27001.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, SANS, CIS).
  • Working knowledge of cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze and interpret technical findings.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team setting.
  • Self-driven and accountable.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Customer-oriented and service-focused.
  • High integrity and discretion with confidential information.
