Payroll Specialist - Independent Contractor Base pay range: $7.00/hr - $8.00/hr Job Summary We are seeking a highly meticulous and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct a comprehensive weekly review of payroll data to ensure every employee is paid accurately and on time. Key Responsibilities Data Verification: Meticulously compare the current week's payroll report against the prior week & report for each employee, verifying details such as hours, pay rates, and any special payments like bonuses. Reconciliation: Reconcile data in the BBSI payroll system with information from the weekly payroll spreadsheet, ensuring all items in the & Payroll Notes (Current) & tab are accounted for. This includes checking for raises, bonuses, or other unique situations. Hours and Overtime Audit: Review timesheets to ensure that regular hours do not exceed 40 and that all overtime (OT) is recorded correctly. Compare hours logged in the TimeCo system against the final payroll report. Specialized Review: For employees who do not use a time clock, review their completed work in the Skimmer application to ensure their reported hours are accurate. Issue Resolution: Identify and investigate any payroll errors or warnings that arise during processing. Communicate with managers via Teams, Slack, or email to clarify discrepancies, such as uncompleted routes or missing time. Final Approval & Processing: Conduct a final review comparing total amounts in the summary spreadsheet to the payroll system & grand totals. After confirming the review is complete and receiving approval from management, finalize and release the payroll in BBSI. Skills and Qualifications Proven experience in payroll processing, auditing, or similar detail-oriented role. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use judgment to investigate and resolve discrepancies. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, particularly in using spreadsheets with multiple tabs for data comparison. Experience with payroll software is required; familiarity with BBSI is highly preferred. Ability to learn and navigate other software platforms like SharePoint and Skimmer. Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with the team.
