The Head of Manila is responsible for the oversight of the effective risk and operational management of business functions located on site, ensuring development and alignment with the Group’s global objectives and strategies. The Head of Technology, Manila, will oversee all aspects of technology infrastructure and strategy in Manila, including managing the development and implementation of new technologies, ensuring security and efficiency of existing systems, and leading a team of technology professionals.

The role requires collaboration with Global Functional leads across Corporate Functions to ensure Manila adheres to the global framework, maintaining consistency of standards, processes and technology. The individual will represent Manila with key stakeholders in the APAC region and globally to drive deliverables and priorities and strengthen relationships with internal stakeholders.

The role also includes leading cross-functional strategies in Manila to ensure seamless collaboration and results, and to grow Manila as a centre of excellence with stability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the Manila Target Operating Model for business functions, aligning with the Group’s global strategies and standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the local management team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and collaboration.
  • Champion the profile of the Manila office within the group as a hub for people and technology growth, delivering excellence in partnership with revenue divisions.
Technology Leadership
  • Build, grow and invest in a world-class engineering workforce.
  • Drive technology transformation and deliver Compass-related initiatives in Manila, in collaboration with Line of Business and Asset Class function heads (CIOs).
  • Create and maintain a Manila technology plan aligned with the global technology strategy to enable the regional business strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Group Technology Leadership Team to develop and maintain a global technology strategy.
  • Ensure the technology delivery capability in Manila is aligned with regional and local business objectives.
  • Foster standardization and optimization of technology and processes in Manila; promote continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Oversee IT risk management within the broader risk management framework.
  • Embed a business-operations-led technology and process governance framework, covering pipeline identification, prioritization, and investment approvals.
  • Work with IT and functional leadership to identify and implement strategies to reduce operational IT delivery cost per FTE and service delivery cost per process.
  • Lead and manage staff with defined roles, clear performance goals, and development plans.
Operations & Risk Management
  • Manage day-to-day operations of on-site functions, ensuring compliance with internal controls, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide governance framework and metrics with appropriate escalations and performance indicators.
  • Partner with function owners to enhance site-level service and solution delivery, and maintain effective communication models.
  • Manage relationships with business and stakeholders regionally and globally.
Innovation, Growth & Excellence
  • Identify and develop productivity opportunities across Manila cross-functionally.
  • Strategize and implement initiatives to optimize hub practices, improve efficiency, and realize cost savings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to adopt emerging technologies and support transformation.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and integrate innovative opportunities into daily operations.
Talent Management & Development
  • Attract, retain and develop top talent in Manila to deliver high service levels.
  • Partner with business functions to develop talent management programs enabling mobility, growth and promotion.
  • Promote Manila as a centre for institutional knowledge within the Group to attract and retain talent.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training to elevate Manila staff capabilities.
  • Promote Diversity and Inclusion in Manila aligned with the Group’s DEI strategy.
  • Engage with the community to raise the company’s image and support the organization’s presence.

Essential Experience / Competencies

  • Successful track record in the financial industry with a strong technology background.
  • Senior leadership presence with the gravitas to influence global stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Experience leading large, multi-cultural, international teams in a fast-paced financial services environment.
  • Experience in building or optimizing offshore centres of expertise; familiarity with global service delivery models.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality operational or technology services and to implement continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Agile).
  • Commercially astute with good knowledge of the financial services industry; strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to lead transformation and complex projects; strong communications and stakeholder management skills.
  • Public speaking skills to engage diverse stakeholders; action-oriented, entrepreneurial, agile and innovative in operational management.
  • Analytical and decisive decision-maker with the ability to prioritize objectives and tactics.
Desirable Experience
  • Familiarity with the Philippine financial and technology landscape.
  • Direct experience leading an offshore centre of excellence in Manila or other locations.
  • International experience across multiple countries and cultures.
