Responsibilities- Ensures that the Project Brief and design requirements are understood; raises technical queries and requests for information to ensure design information is complete and unambiguous.
- Drafts/prepares self-checks, studies specification, reports, design calculations and structural details/sketches in accordance with project requirements including stability checks and compliance with appropriate codes.
- Ensures that designs are correctly interpreted and represented on the drawings.
- Provides drawings/sketches for own designs and produces sketches to incorporate in drawings by Drafters.
- Ensures markups are delivered to the drafting team in a timely manner.
- Reviews and incorporates comments of the Design Checker; checks/prepares CAD drawings in accordance with required standards as necessary.
- Performs quality design checks and drawing reviews as required.
- Organizes, drafts and coordinates technical documents; assists in duties of the Project Manager and attends meetings as directed.
- Drafts correspondences for the Project Manager or communicates directly with the Design Team on day-to-day matters.
- Works towards continuous improvement of the team by utilizing standardized calculation systems.
- Carries out site inspections as instructed; undergoes relevant trainings; complies with role-specific SHEQ obligations; develops ability to apply safety in design to all projects.
- Prepares technical reports on small to medium projects; applies legislations, standards, guidelines and project specifications.
- Workshare management; performs other duties as directed to help the company provide outstanding service to its customers.
- A Registered Civil Engineer.
- Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Applications.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the design of multi-level residential, commercial and institutional projects.
- Experience in the design of reinforced and post-tensioned concrete and structural steelwork.
- Experience with design software including RAPT, RAM Concept, Microstran, and ETABS.
- Has worked within an international design office and is familiar with Australian Standards (a plus).
- Ability to check documentation accurately and in a timely manner; ability to work as a team player and independently; clear communication with clients and colleagues.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow up targets and deadlines; knowledge of relevant systems, procedures and practices; risk awareness and safety.
- Develops understanding of WSP's organizational capability and how to access it; developing technical skills across a broad range and experience in monitoring and managing scope of multiple projects.
