The Remote Sensing and Earth Observation Specialist will provide support in the design, implementation, and monitoring of nature-based carbon projects. This role involves geospatial analysis for land use mapping, biomass estimation, and risk modeling, using advanced remote sensing techniques and machine learning. Employment Type: Fixed-Term (Full time) Work Location: Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (Onsite/Remote) Responsibilities: Support project design, feasibility assessment, implementation, and long-term monitoring Analyze and model remote sensing and geospatial data for applications such as land cover/use mapping, fire risk assessment, above-ground biomass estimation, and deforestation risk modeling. Leverage cutting-edge technologies, including cloud computing, machine learning, and scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, SQL), to build automated workflows, enhance geospatial infrastructure, and support MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) processes. Support field data collection through drone coordination and validation activities, provides technical guidance and training, and ensures geospatial quality control across teams. Strong emphasis is placed on clear documentation, reporting, and communication of remote sensing outputs for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including support for external verification and project documentation (e.g., PDDs under standards like Verra) Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in (or equivalent professional equivalent) GIS, Environmental Science, Forestry, computer science or related fields; At least 5 years of experience in Remote Sensing and GIS; Experience and expertise in workflow automation, machine learning/deep learning technique for image classification & segmentation (Random Forest, Linear Regression, Artificial Neural Network for nature-based solution carbon project application; Experience in advanced remote sensing analysis & modelling, i.e., image processing both active and passive sensor (image calibration & correction, change detection modelling (Land Trendr &CCDC),& image classification; In-depth knowledge and experience of RS/GIS implementation for forestry, conservation, land use in AFOLU carbon projects; Familiarity with photogrammetry software (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Agisoft); Programming skills, particularly in Python and Google Earth Engine; Familiarity with terms such as land cover, land use, and carbon project modeling.
