Senior Quality Assurance and Test Engineer

Position Summary

The role of the Senior Quality Assurance and Test Engineer (SQATE) is to work with the Quality Assurance and Release Manager in implementing the end-to-end processes of the Quality Assurance, Testing, and Release activities from a pre-production, pre-test environment to the final test and production environment to provide a fail-proof system in every stage of the product development and deployment. The SQATE takes an active role in identifying every and all inconsistencies, defects, deviations from specifications, and decreases in performance after developers have completed their work, and takes a proactive role in preventing possible failure at an early stage until the execution of tests is in place to guarantee the quality of the product and applications are in compliance and within or above the set standards to successfully implement the testing phase and propose the right solution or approval to the Quality Assurance & Release Manager before final release, if necessary, within the planned timeframe. The SQATE has full access to all environments to ensure that the development and testing processes are correct. The SQATE is to recommend tools and share best practices to help speed up the process for developers. The SQATE takes an active role from the beginning of each sprint to understand what’s going to be built and how it’s going to be tested in an agile working model, where one phase of the process depends on the completion of the previous phase, and where testing and development simultaneously take place during a sprint.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Defines, creates, and updates test plans for internal and external applications.
• Manages the mapping of test cases to business requirements and functional designs.
• Defines, creates, and updates testing artifacts including but not limited to test cases, test scripts, test conditions, and expected test results; validates functionality, interoperability, and data integrity of the application under test.
• Reviews testing deliverables.
• Reviews test execution results.
• Performs negative testing.
• Troubleshoots issues and investigates/verifies logs.
• Documents and logs defects in a timely manner using QA management tools like TFS, GitHub.
• Works with 3rd party vendors/clients to ensure successful product integration.
• Tests applications on clients’ sites.
• Executes normal and complex test cases.
• Continuously improves test case coverage by covering (E2E, Regression, Negative, and Exploratory Test cases) for all features.
• Performs functional tests to ensure all requirement functions are working as expected and meet the requirements.
• Performs regression tests after all functional and defects are fixed to ensure the application is working end-to-end.
• Attends daily stand-up meetings with the project team providing detailed analysis when requested.
• Collaborates within the QA team for the solution/changes required and relays it to the development team.
• Submits daily activity reports.
• Performs required performance testing preparation/execution activities.
• Sets up environment and database data for devices under test.
• Ensures that provided environments/devices/peripherals setup mimics production setup.
• Writes basic to intermediate SQL scripts and documents it via GitHub.
• Installs and tests mobile applications on, but not limited to, Android/iOS devices.
• Conducts actual testing of applications and devices in the field, as needed.
• Recommends or hands over applications to be deployed in production and creates the corresponding handover documentation.
• Ensures correct configurations are documented and coordinated to respective teams.
• Ensures and monitors correct upgrade/sequencing of versions are carried out in production.
• Works with cross-functional teams (FE & BE Devs, BDs, Operations, Marketing, Finance, ITOPS) to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Conducts post-release/post-implementation testing in case of production issues and helps provide investigation/facts, i.e., issue replication.
• Works closely with the development team to provide support and inputs regarding product design and issues.

Education and Work Background

• Minimum of five (5) working years relevant professional IT and solutions development experience.
• Graduate of Computer Science or similar IT, Data Science, or Programming courses.
• Preference for background experience in Scrum methodology and GitHub platform.
• Experience in building complex applications for cross-platform support using multi-stack development and platforms such as .Net, Java, Flutter, React IDEs, and Figma for mobile, web, desktop, and feature devices.
• This includes familiarity with backend SOA or Microservices on .Net, J2EE, Linux, DBMS, Message Queues, SQL Lite, or Firebase with APIs on REST, JSON, SOAP, XML, GRPC, KAFKA.
• Understanding of MVP and MVVM development patterns and frameworks.
• Working knowledge of Big Data and Data Lake frameworks, platforms, and tools for Business Intelligence and Analytics.
• Manage builds, versions, source codes with GitHub and publish mobile applications with Google Play and App Store.
• Familiarity/working knowledge of the Scrum framework for a super agile and adaptive development methodology.
