Description:

IPEN is now seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to join its policy and programs team.

The Project Manager will oversee project planning, partner coordination, monitoring & evaluation, reporting, and advocacy support, while also strengthening IPEN’s networks with civil society, Indigenous groups, and governments. The role includes technical and editorial support for producing country-level studies and preparing high-level policy briefings. A significant responsibility will be managing detailed reports to government funders. Initially, the Project Manager is to lead two major initiatives: an Indonesia project (2026–2029) aiming to empower civil society organizations to engage in a just, green transition of the energy and metallurgical sector, and the Toxic Gold project (2025–2026), aiming to end the international mercury trade fueling artisanal and small-scale gold mining in the Amazon.

This is a permanent, full-time position based remotely and reporting to our Program Director in the Philippines. While the Philippines is the preferred location for the position, we are open to another South East Asia location for the right candidate. While the initial focus is on the Indonesia and Toxic Gold projects, the Project Manager will also contribute to IPEN’s policy and advocacy work beyond these projects.

We are a small secretariat with staff and advisors based in several locations all over the world, supporting the IPEN network. Some travel and work outside of regular office hours is required, due to members and staff in various time zones.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced qualification) in environmental policy, international development, public health, or a related field. Significant relevant professional experience may substitute for an advanced degree.
• Minimum 3 years’ project management experience, preferably with EU or other larger public institution donors.
• Experience from working on environmental and/or public health issues. Demonstrated experience with international waste and chemicals policy would be a plus.
• Proven expertise in monitoring & evaluation of multi-partner projects.
• Strong networking, partnership-building, and advocacy skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

It is also considered a merit if you have experience in working with CSOs and Indigenous Groups in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America, and if you speak Bahasa Indonesia, Spanish or Portuguese at a proficient level.

The position:

Full-time (average 40 hrs/week), starting date as soon as possible.

Permanent position with 6 months initial probation period.

Salary range: USD 1,200 – USD 1,550/month.
