Job Description

We are seeking a motivated SMSF Accountant with at least 2+ years’ experience working on Australian Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs). The ideal candidate will be confident using Class Super and Excel, with strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. While experience with Xero and financial statement preparation is desirable, we are happy to provide training in these areas for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Process and manage SMSF accounting and compliance tasks within Class Super.
• Prepare workpapers, reconciliations, and reports for SMSF clients.
• Assist with preparation of financial statements, tax returns, and regulatory documents (training provided if required).
• Perform bank reconciliations, investment reconciliations, and member statements.
• Ensure compliance with ATO and Superannuation Industry requirements.
• Work closely with auditors, administrators, and financial planners as needed.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for SMSF clients.
• Communicate effectively with clients and team members, ensuring professional service delivery.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in SMSF workflows.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience working with SMSFs in Australia.
• Strong working knowledge of Class Super.
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (reconciliations, formulas, data analysis).
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Xero.
• Exposure to financial statement preparation for SMSFs.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Working towards or completion of CA/CPA/IPA or SMSF specialist accreditation.

Non-negotiable skills & requirements

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience working with SMSFs in Australia.
• Strong working knowledge of Class Super.
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (reconciliations, formulas, data analysis).
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
