Overview

Accounts Officer (Compliance) at Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement. The Accounting Officer will work closely with the financial management team and the MTC Head to create and analyze financial reports and ensure compliance with legal requirements, process accounts payable and receivable, manage invoices and tax payments, and stay updated on local regulatory changes.

The duties include overseeing the company’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable, receivable and daily financial entries and reconciliation, and ensuring that all accounting processes, procedures and standards are implemented.

Key Accountabilities
  • Maintain an accurate financial report (trial balance, income statement, balance sheet) in PAL for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reporting.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly booked and accounted for based on the relevant accounting standards and policy.
  • Ensure that all accounting entries are supported by relevant documents and approvals; gather necessary supporting documents (invoices, emails, agreements, etc.) and attach them to journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements and calculate tax payments and returns; monitor tax deadlines and ensure timely remittance of tax payments to avoid penalties.
  • Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements according to legal guidelines.
  • Review and implement financial policies.
  • Prepare forecasts and support organizational budgeting and reporting.
  • Assist in handling internal and external audits and liaising with tax authorities as needed.
  • Process invoice payments and track company expenses.
  • Provide relevant reconciliation reports to ensure the reliability of account balances.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable.
  • Comply with all company, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations.
  • Ensure documentation is easily accessible for internal or external audit purposes.
  • Keep up to date with the latest financial trends and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or any Finance-related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Accounting and Tax filings.
  • Knowledge of Philippine tax regulations and compliance laws.
  • Work experience in a maritime or shipping company is an advantage.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Good analytical and conceptual thinking; high attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • MS Office proficiency; advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (SAP, QuickBooks, Xero, etc.).
