Overview

Tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Neutron-Based Research of Colloidal Systems in Food Science – Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen (CaIFF). The position is anchored at the Department of Food Science and is joint with the Niels Bohr Institute. The aim is to develop research on neutron-based methods for investigating non-equilibrium multicomponent colloidal systems relevant to food material science. The appointment is open from 1 April 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead research within the Center on neutron-based methodologies for colloidal systems in food science.
  • Collaborate across departments (Department of Food Science and Niels Bohr Institute) and participate in the ESS Lighthouse: Colloids and Interfaces in Food and Pharma (CaIFF).
  • Engage in teaching, supervision, and examination duties appropriate to the rank (tenure-track/associate professor).
  • Publish research results and contribute to grant applications and dissemination of research to the public.
  • Contribute to the Center’s cross-disciplinary activities and collaborate with project PIs and other center colleagues.
Essential Experience And Skills
  • PhD degree or equivalent relevant to the field.
  • Experience with neutron- and/or X-ray-based methodologies.
  • Experience with modeling and advanced data analysis of scattering data.
  • Experience in physicochemical studies of soft matter and/or food colloids using such methodologies.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills, written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in small-angle scattering techniques, advanced data modelling and interpretation; familiarity with QENS, reflectometry, and imaging.
  • Strong background in soft matter and experimental colloid science related to food science.
Application And Assessment

The position is a six-year tenure-track with potential for promotion to associate professor. The assessment considers documented internationally competitive research, potential for future impact, ability to attract external funding, and teaching qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but will be considered if present.

  • Curriculum vitae including information about external funding.
  • Research plan describing current and future work, and involvement in organizing research activities.
  • Teaching portfolio and documentation of teaching qualifications and dissemination activities.
  • Publications list (up to five publications may be submitted for assessment, with at least two published within the five years prior to the deadline).

Diplomas (Master and PhD or equivalent), research plan, and documentation of teaching experience should be provided in English when applying online. Separate applications may be submitted for tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor levels.
