Senior/Principal Power Systems Engineer

You will report to the Front Office Power Systems team and provide robust technical and design support across medium and high voltage (MV and HV) engineering disciplines, ensuring that all project requirements and client specifications are met. You will demonstrate initiative, own key responsibilities, and mentor graduate and junior power systems engineers.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide power systems engineering services design associated with buildings and infrastructure.
  • Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the change control process; maintain planning and cost control on all scopes.
  • Represent the team, group, and discipline at external meetings.
  • Visit overseas sites and factories to undertake inspections, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, etc.
  • Prepare MV and HV equipment specifications and data sheets using proforma documents along with controls and overall project specifications.
  • Select protection schemes for MV and HV networks; prepare protection strategy documents and reports.
  • Undertake power systems network analysis and written reports including load flows, earthing studies, and harmonic studies.
  • Carry out engineering calculations to ensure designs meet required robust industry and legal standards.
Role Requirements
  • Holds a degree in Electrical or Electronics and Communication Engineering; a postgraduate qualification in Power Systems Engineering is an advantage.
  • Extensive experience (7–15 years) delivering power systems engineering services for infrastructure and building projects at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to deliver small to large-scale projects from concept design to completion within budget and schedule constraints with maintained technical integrity.
  • Results-oriented with strong problem-solving, technical realization, and coordination skills.
  • Experience across a wide range of technical areas and appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modelling in building design.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (verbal and written); proven ability to negotiate positive outcomes, plan resources, and manage teams.
  • Team-builder capable of supporting the team through training and mentoring.
  • Computer literacy including ETAP (or equivalent power systems analysis software), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Technical knowledge of LV and MV generation using various prime movers (diesel, HVO, gas, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding of power systems and network design; knowledge of resilient control engineering related to power systems.
  • Proficient with IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software.
  • Good understanding of BS and IEC standards, regulations and codes, and applicable local or overseas equivalents.
  • Knowledge of grid and network operators’ specifications and practices.
