JOB DESCRIPTION

An insurance law firm is looking for a Billing team Lead to manage a team of specialist legal billers.

SUMMARY

The billing team lead is responsible for driving the team's performance, ensuring high quality and timely billing, and providing excellent service to the business stakeholders.

  • The billing team lead will supervise, coach, and mentor a team of legal billers, who generate and edit bills for various legal services.
  • The billing team lead will ensure the team are completing their required activities as per deadlines and will report accurately on progress / issues to the billing team manager.
  • The billing team lead will also liaise with the onshore billing team and respond to urgent requests from stakeholders to resolve billing issues and queries.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the billing team, including assigning tasks, monitoring progress, reporting on progress at end of day and providing feedback.
  • Ensure that the billing team meets or exceeds the performance targets, such as accuracy, speed, and customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare and analyze reports on the billing team's performance and present them to the senior management.
  • Review / spot check bills generated by the billing team, ensuring compliance with the firm's policies and procedures, as well as the clients' requirements.
  • Identify and implement best practices and process improvements for the billing team, using data and feedback.
  • Train and develop the billing team members, providing regular coaching and feedback, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Handle complex or escalated billing issues and queries, involving billing team manager and business stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure that the billing team adheres to the firm's ethical standards, values, and culture.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in legal billing, preferably in a law firm or a professional services firm.
  • At least two years of experience in leading or supervising a billing team.
  • Strong knowledge of legal billing software, such as Elite, Aderant, or ProLaw.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team.
