Junior Editor

The position is primarily responsible for copyediting, proofreading, and final reading of all assigned manuscripts and other related jobs. Responsibility includes managing assigned manuscripts to obtain quality and timeliness goals. Performs design task within the desktop publishing process from initial product design until final RTP proof for specific jobs assigned including designs, lay-out, and corrections.

1. Accesses the Wrike Project Management System, checks and assesses assigned tasks, and retrieves documents needing action.

2. Performs the assigned tasks such as copyediting, proofreading, final reading, as per correction reading, index checking based on standards.

3. Adheres to set schedules as stated in the Wrike Project Management System by logging in and out daily.

4. Monitors schedules on assigned tasks based on set timelines.

5. Performs Manuscript acceptance:

• Check manuscript for completion of parts and elements per endorsement

• Completes the MS Acceptance Checklist form

• Checks and flags the manuscript for the presence of screenshots, photos, and illustrations with embedded text.

1. Performs the Production Process Walkthrough of authors, coordinators, and outsource partners.

2. Creates a stylesheet for the assigned project or title.

3. Performs Copyediting:

• Checks the manuscript based on prerequisites for Copyediting.

• Performs copyediting through line by line reading of the manuscript.

• Ensures mechanics and styling of assigned titles in compliance to REX house style.

• Checks the spelling, basic grammar, sequence, elements, table of contents entries, referencing, Revision #: 00 Effectivity Date: _________ 2 capitalization, and punctuations.

• Endorses copyedited files to Developmental Editing/Author/Content and Language Editing for answering of queries and approval of corrections

• Backchecks the copyedited manuscript to check whether or not the queries have been addressed.

• Prepares manuscript draft for approval of the Immediate Superior and endorsement for formatting and layout.

• Uploads manuscript draft and endorsement form to the Layout Team Lead

1. Performs Proofreading:

• Compares the formatted material versus the copyedited draft.

• Checks the formatted file based on prerequisites for Proofreading.

• Performs proofreading through page by page reading of the formatted manuscript.

• Checks icons, elements, page runners, table of contents (pagination and titles/headings), image (tables, charts, illustrations, photos) against text, footnotes, endnotes, references, sequencing (chapters, lessons, units, numbers, letters, figures, tables, activity), consistency of style, and typography.
• Checks the material for completeness of contents (book parts, elements, endorsed illustrations, etc.) and its compliance to the set standards, style, and book design.
• Endorses the formatted file to Author for review and approval of Author.

• Endorses the manuscript for approval of immediate superior and endorsement for implementation of formatting/art corrections to Layout Section/Art Section.

• Performs proofreading of the front cover (Consistency of authors name and spelling vs. title page and About the Authors page; grade level; edition; violators) and back covers (checks the spelling and basic grammar of the writeup)

• Checks the consistency and completeness of details (authors names and academic distinctions) on the title page versus About the Authors/coordinators pages

• Checks the details of the title page versus the copyright page (title, classification, edition, and presence of ISBN and item code; no page number for copyright page)

• Performs TOC checking (Body vs. TOC, TOC Format/Content) to check consistency (if applicable)

1. Performs Final Reading:

• Checks the formatted file based on prerequisites for Final Reading.

• Reviews the formatted file based on annotations from the Proofreading file.

• Runs spell checking.

• Performs TOC checking (Body vs. TOC, TOC Format/Content) to check consistency of pagination, titles, and headings

• Endorses the Final Reading file to Layout Section for implementation of annotations.

1. Performs Index Checking:

• Randomly checks the accuracy of index entries (if applicable)

• Endorses index file to Layout Section for implementation of corrections (if any).

12. Performs editorial quality checking of Outsource output

• Monitoring compliance to editorial process for outsourced projects

13. Performs other tasks as maybe assigned.
