The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the design of substation steel structures and ancillary facilities, and perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel and concrete.

You'll work closely with clients (Quanta Operating Units) to align engineering output with broader project and business objectives.

About the Role

In this senior position, you will provide technical leadership and expertise across the full project lifecycle – from design concept through to commissioning. You'll contribute to business development, mentor junior engineers, and ensure projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of substation steel structures, gantries, bus supports, equipment foundations, control buildings, and ancillary facilities.
  • Perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel and concrete in compliance with IEC, Eurocodes, ACI, AISC, and other relevant standards.
  • Develop complete foundation design packages for transformers, circuit breakers, GIS/AIS equipment, and cable support systems.
  • Prepare and review general arrangement drawings, structural layouts, and detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Produce and review structural calculation reports, bills of quantities, and construction documentation.
  • Ensure integration of structural and civil designs with electrical layouts, geotechnical data, and site development requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality oversight to structural engineers and CAD designers.
  • Represent the structural engineering discipline in client meetings, design reviews, and regulatory discussions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and licensed Civil Engineer
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, with significant exposure to electrical substation projects.
  • Proven experience with structural design of steel and concrete components, including substation-specific structures.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD Pro, SAP2000, etc.).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for substation layouts.
  • In-depth understanding of international standards and codes (IEC, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Knowledge of seismic, wind, and extreme weather design considerations for substations.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills for interfacing with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients.
