EROAD, a New Zealand–headquartered product company, is building its pioneering engineering team in the Philippines We are looking for a Software Engineer – Big Data to design and deliver data-driven software solutions that will make roads safer and more sustainable worldwide.

Your work will have real-world impact, embedding analytics and insights into EROAD's core platforms to transform massive datasets into actionable intelligence.

Tech Stack & Tools

  • Languages: Java (primary), plus Python or Scala (bonus)
  • Cloud: AWS (primary), Azure, Snowflake
  • Big Data & Streaming: Kinesis, Kafka, Glue, Flink, Lambda, Azure Data Factory
  • Databases: Advanced SQL (T-SQL, ANSI SQL), relational DBs, query optimisation
  • Architecture: Microservices, containers (Docker, EKS/ECS/AKS), RESTful APIs
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Git-based workflows
  • Bonus Skills: Snowflake, dbt, Apache Iceberg, React/Redux

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure for streaming, batch, and API data sources.
  • Develop scalable, secure REST APIs and event-driven services.
  • Design and optimise large datasets for scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning via Terraform.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, security, and compliance across systems.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to deliver analytics solutions that create business value.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in software engineering or data engineering
  • Strong background in Java (Python/Scala a plus)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native applications (AWS preferred, Azure a plus)
  • Proven experience with ETL/ELT pipelines (streaming & batch)
  • Strong SQL skills (query tuning, performance optimisation)
  • Familiarity with microservices & container orchestration (EKS/ECS/AKS)
  • Proficient with Terraform or similar IaC tools
  • Experience designing REST APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger standards)
  • Bonus: Snowflake, dbt, Apache Iceberg, React
