Auto Mechanic – Job Description

Auto Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. The role involves performing routine maintenance services, identifying mechanical and electrical issues, and completing repairs in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer guidelines. Auto Mechanics work closely with service advisors and customers to explain vehicle conditions and recommend appropriate solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and engine issues in vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and fluid replacements.
  • Repair or replace faulty components, including brakes, engines, transmissions, and steering systems.
  • Conduct test drives to verify the quality of repairs and ensure proper functioning.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues and verify completed repairs.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records.
  • Follow safety procedures and ensure work meets quality and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate findings, repair options, and cost estimates to service advisors or customers.
  • Stay updated on new automotive technologies and repair techniques.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in automotive repair preferred.
  • Proven experience as an auto mechanic or automotive technician.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostic tools, and repair equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and perform repairs efficiently.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work in various conditions.
  • Certification (NCII) is a must.
