JOB SUMMARY:

A registered guidance counselor assists students with their academic, personal, and career development. They provide individual and group counseling, assess student needs, and develop personalized guidance plans. They also collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student success and facilitate positive social and emotional development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Individual and Group Counseling: Providing support and guidance to students on academic, social, emotional, and career-related challenges through individual and group counseling sessions.

Assessment and Planning: Evaluating student abilities, interests, and personalities to help them develop realistic academic and career goals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree:

A bachelor's degree in Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field is typically required as a prerequisite for the Master's program.

Master's Degree:

A Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling (MAGC) is a mandatory requirement for taking the RGC board exam.

Licensure Exam:

Passing the Guidance and Counseling Licensure Examination administered by the PRC is essential to become a Registered Guidance Counselor.

Specializations:

Taking certified specializations in counseling or pursuing higher studies can enhance career opportunities.

Collaboration: Working closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to address student needs, coordinate support services, and create a positive learning environment.

Career and College Guidance: Assisting students with college applications, scholarship opportunities, and career exploration.

Crisis Intervention: Providing support and resources to students facing emotional or social difficulties, including crisis intervention when necessary.

Program Development: Developing and implementing programs to address student needs, such as academic success, social skills development, and conflict resolution.

Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of counseling sessions, student progress, and other relevant information.

Advocacy: Advocating for student needs and well-being within the school community.

Professional Development: Staying updated on the latest educational trends and resources to enhance counseling services.

Community Outreach: Facilitating communication between students, parents, and teachers regarding academic and social issues.

Conflict Resolution: Helping students resolve conflicts with peers, teachers, or other staff members.

Promoting Positive Behavior: Implementing programs and strategies to promote positive behavior, including anti-bullying initiatives and substance abuse prevention.
